Job summary, Duties and Responsibilities
- Works cooperatively with other Program Coordinators and other staff to ensure the programs are delivered under the Tseycum’s philosophy guiding principles of quality childcare and education
- Ensure the program delivery meets and /or exceeds the Community Care Facilities Child Care Regulations and Facilities Act
- Ensure the program delivery follows Early Learning Policies and Procedures Manual
- Ensures that the program follow the Coast Salish Cultural Calendar and inclusive of the Language and Culture of Tseycum
- Ensures that the programming / curriculum is planned to support each child’s individual needs
- Coordinates the support services for children with Special Needs, this includes discussions with Parents, referrals to support services, follow up and ongoing support
- Coordinate and plan weekly staff meetings
- Ensure all plans, schedules, and routines are posted
- Assists with the program delivery which includes the daily care routines and activities
- Ensures all First Aid kits are well stocked, and supplies are ordered as needed
- Ensure that all emergency cards are up to date and children’s files are up to day
- Ensures the daily schedule meets individual staff needs for breaks and planning
- Attends and participates in all staff meetings and professional development activities.
- Provides the Child Care Manager with written Monthly Reports submitted the following month that outline how the program has met the Required 6 Head Start Components.
- Provides initial authorization for staff leave requests and ensures all required forms are complete and submitted to the Child Care Manager
- Ensure appropriate on call staff is in place for leaves
- Provides mentoring to ECE practicum students and works cooperatively with the associated Educational Institutions
- Maintains a high standard of professional ethics in work habits and relationships with children, parents, fellow staff members and the Tseycum Nation
- Ensures primary care givers, under her supervision are observing, recording information and planning for the children in their care
- Assist as requested with regular conferences with parents/to discuss children’s progress
- Reads and records information in the daily logbook
- Participates in daily routines e.g. supervision of clean-up, toileting routines, lunchtime, outdoor play and naptime
- Participates in staff development activities such as attending seminars or workshops
- Orientation of new staff
- Attending and participating in Staff meetings
- Always provides professional and friendly service.
- Assisting in the completion of funding applications upon request
- Performs all other relevant duties in back-up capacity when require
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Early Childhood Education diploma (in accordance with Community Care Facilities Branch licensing requirements
- Minimum 1yr relevant experience
- Valid certificate to practice issued by BC Early Childhood Registry.
- Current First Aid Certificate Level 1
- Successful Criminal Record Check
- Evidence that you have complied with the province’s immunization and tuberculosis program
- Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Physical demands
- While preforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to stand, sit, reach, lift, bending down. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. and move/react quickly to ensure children’s safety
- Must be able to down to the children level and be on the floor
Mental Demands
- This position requires the ability to manage several requests and situations at one time
Environmental Conditions
- The work environment is active, busy, and noise levels vary from quite to loud
- Indoor, outdoor activities and out on the land learning/teachings
