Job summary, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works cooperatively with all staff to ensure the programs are delivered under the Tseycum’s Eary Years philosophy and guiding principles of quality childcare and Leaderships believes
  • Ensure the program delivery meets and/or exceeds the Community Care Facilities Child Care Regulations and Facilities Act
  • Ensure the program delivery follows all Childcare Policies, Staff and Procedures Manual
  • Ensures that the program follow the Coast Salish Cultural Calendar and inclusive of the SENCOTEN language and culture
  • Ensures that the programming/curriculum is planned to support each child and has the ability to adjust and adapt to changes
  • Ability to be energetic, resilient and maintains a sense of humor when personal resources are challenged
  • Achieves results with positive outcomes for children in the program
  • Believes in and practices the mission, goals of the program
  • Shows interest in learning Coast Salish values, believes and cultural protocols
  • Encourages families to participate in a variety of meaningful opportunities as they are available. Demonstrates the ability to build trust and positive relationships with families in the program
  • Attends and participates in all staff meetings and professional development activities Maintains a high standard of professional ethics in work habits and relationships with children, parents, fellow staff members and the Tseycum community
  • Reads and records information in the daily logbook
  • Always provides professional and friendly service
  • Performs all other relevant duties in back-up capacity when required
  • Act as a role model of appropriate behavior
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of the childcare team
  • Participates in the developing of new ideas and methods for program
  • Takes personal initiative with good planning and organizational skills
  • Prepares for daily weekly and monthly activities – ensuring that culture and language is incorporated in a areas of daily programming Promotes, encourages, and assures the AHSOR 6 components are implemented and delivered for children and their families
  • Implements culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate early education activities/curriculum in all programs, while embedding the teachings, culture and language daily in all activities
  • Preforms other related duties as assigned
  • Will support other programs as need ect… cover for short of staff or breaks if needed

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Early Childhood Education ECEC (in accordance with Community Care Facilities Branch licensing requirements)
  • Minimum 1 yr. relevant experience in a licensed childcare facility
  • Valid certificate to practice issued by BC Early Childhood Registry
  • Knowledge of the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, Childcare Licensing Regulations
  • Knowledge of the First Nations Early Learning Childcare Framework and the ECEC Code of Conduct
  • Current First Aid Certificate Level 1
  • Successful Criminal Record Check
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Working conditions

Physical demands

  • While preforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to stand, sit, reach, lift, bending down. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. and move/react quickly to ensure children’s safety
  • Must be able to down to the children level and be on the floor

Mental Demands

  • This position requires the ability to manage several requests and situations at one time

Environmental Conditions

  • The work environment is active, busy, and noise levels vary from quite to loud
  • Indoor, outdoor activities and out on the land learning/teachings
