This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Galiano’s only licensed non-profit daycare. We offer a multi-age licensed, child care program with an emphasis on nature and play-based learning, caring for up to 8 kids daily, aged 18 months to 5 years old. The Galiano Community Daycare is located in the supportive and inclusive community at the Galiano Community School, as well as nestled in a spectacular natural setting with access to the school forest, school garden, and licensed playground. The Program Manager reports to the Operations Manager and supervises regular and on-call ECEs and daycare assistants. They provide the necessary support, resources and leadership to ensure the provision of safe and nurturing care to young children in a group setting. The Program Manager will be the sole caregiver for up to 8 children at times, and supported by daycare assistants for the majority of the day.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plans a stimulating and developmentally appropriate program to meet the needs of children in a group setting within a safe and healthy environment
  • Ensures program is in strict compliance with the BC Child Care Licensing Regulation
  • Supervises other ECEs, ECE-As, and RAs; schedules work and assigns responsibilities in accordance with an approved budget
  • Provides for the physical needs of children including diapering, toileting, feeding, napping, exercise and medication administration as needed
  • Ensures positive communication with families through regular verbal and written contact
  • Maintains all required records and logs for licensing purposes

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education diploma or degree and relevant experience
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR
  • Negative criminal record check
  • Superior interpersonal skills and proven ability to work closely with team members
  • Sensitivity and respect for individual and cultural differences
  • Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Commitment to high-quality programming for children and a supportive work environment
  • High degree of initiative and dedication

Position Start Date:  January 5th, (Some flexibility is possible)

Hours: 8:30-4:30, 2-3 days weekly with opportunity to increase hours

Wage: $32/hr ($28 plus $4 provincially-funded wage enhancement), $2,500 signing bonus, benefits, and free fitness center membership
