Position Summary:
This position is responsible for delivering programs of activities and opportunities that promote cultural, physical, emotional, intellectual and social growth for children ages 3-5. The position is responsible for aiding children in exploring interest, developing talents, building self-esteem, and learning how to share and properly interact with other. This position reports, and is accountable, to the Centre Manager.

Working Environment

  • Our Early Learning Centre includes a preschool and a 3-5 year old program
  • Staff attends meetings, training opportunities, and/or conferences as required

Required Education and Experiences

  • Valid ECE (infant/toddler license an asset)
  • Valid First Aid Certificate (Child Safe)
  • Experience working with children ages 3-5 / preschool
  • Provide references regarding previous work with the 3 – 5 / preschool age group
  • Physically / mentally able to work with 3-5 / preschool age group
  • Experience working with behavioural, special needs (including speech and language) children an asset

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience working with First Nations families and/or a willingness to learn about First Nations culture
  • Sound mediation and conflict resolution skills
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to exercise sound judgement and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with staff and collaborate effectively with internal and external funders to develop, manage and evaluate programs/services
  • Ability to respond effectively to many types of situations, including crisis or conflict situations, and to react quickly with good judgement, diplomacy and tact
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction, act on own initiative, set priorities and meet tight and/or changing deadlines
