One on One Support Worker for
XaXe SŦELIT ̵̱̱KEL Daycare Centre
Under the supervision of the Daycare Team Leads and the ASCD Consultant the One on One Support Worker will mentor and support a designated child to enhance traditional values and cultures in a safe and culturally relevant early learning environment while assisting the child with self regulation.

DUTIES: including but not limited to, others may be assigned
▪ To implement strategies and intervention as developed by the family and ASCD Consultant and other therapeutic practitioners
▪ Work as a team member with ratio childcare staff
▪ Support children with extra support needs to fully participate in the childcare setting
▪ Encourage and model social interaction with the child(ren)’s peers
▪ Assist in planning and implement strategies and activities for inclusion
▪ Assist in planning and implement daily activities and experiences to meet goals and objectives
▪ Provide culturally appropriate daily experiences that support and promote the development of all children in the setting
▪ Maintain regular communication with family and ASCD Consultant
▪ Discuss progress of children with parents and Daycare Team Leads
▪ Attend meetings and workshops to develop and discuss new teaching methods may supervise and co-ordinate the activities of other collaterals involved in the child’s development
▪ Ensure guidance of the child’s behavior that encourages positive self-concept
▪ Complete daily notes as required
▪ Prepare reports as required (i.e. monthly, annual)
▪ Represents the XaXe STELITKEL Daycare and VNFC in a respectful manner always
▪ Is available and receptive to professional development training

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
▪ Experience working in Indigenous communities and with Indigenous organizations
▪ Experience in inclusive childcare settings working with children, families, and other professionals
▪ Strong understanding of how Indigenous culture and history affects parenting and families
▪ Knowledgeable with Indigenous intergenerational trauma and the effects of trauma
▪ Excellent communication skills
▪ Physical requirement – The incumbent must spend a major portion of the work hours standing, walking, and/or lifting heavy objects
▪ The incumbent is required to do a great deal of stretching and bending, and potentially in awkward positions

EXPECTED QUALIFICATIONS:
▪ Responsible Adult Certification or relevant
▪ Must provide a clear vulnerable sector Criminal record check (within 3 months) form can be located at http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/criminal-records-review/
▪ Current First Aid
SALARY: $18.00 to $20.00 per hour based on experience
HOURS: Monday to Friday 40 hours per week;
Must be flexible to work various shifts between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm (Dependant on the child’s needs)
TERM: Child Specific Contact with a 3-month probationary period
START: As Soon As Possible
