Childcare Coordinator –  Little Acorn Care Centre
Position Start Date: December 9, 2019

Position Available: This is a full time, permanent position. This position is based on 37.5 hours per week, which requires flexibility with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.

Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
– Operation, coordination, and supervision of licensed childcare program, including staff, families, outside agencies and Island Health childcare Licensing;
– Take on role of ECE, including direct supervision and program implementation, whenever necessary

Child Care Programs:
– Ensure Licensed childcare programs consider the health and well-being of all children as its highest priority and follows the Island Health childcare Licensing Guidelines;
– Be alert and responsive to each child’s physical, emotional, and social needs and provide direct supervision of children as required;
– Plan and implement purposeful activities in keeping with the philosophy of Oaklands Community Association;
– Facilitate and maintain excellent relations with all stakeholders;
– Treat all complaints/concerns with respect;
– Keep parent packages, registration and all other necessary documents up-to-date;
– Manage and maintain wait list, parent tours, enrollment and registration
– Communicate and relate to staff, parents, and outside agencies in a professional manner and with a positive attitude.

Financial Management
– Managing records and payments from families for parent portion of monthly fees;
– Research and apply for grants for which the Oaklands Neighbourhood House and Little Acorn Care Centre are eligible for;
– Find funding opportunities as required and support Oalkands Centre fundraising initiatives
– Review financial statements and operate the child care program within the approved budget;
– Responsible for proper billings (Affordable Child Care Benefit, Child Care Operating funds, Wage Enhancement reporting and Supported Child Care wages);
– Responsible for keeping accurate, up to date records and streamlining payment processes for effectiveness.

Human Resource Management
– Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule and evaluate performance of program staff and volunteers;
– Provide support to Executive Director and child care staff;
– Meet regularly with Executive Director regarding Child Care programs and inform Executive Director of any problems/issues as soon as possible;
– Update child care program job descriptions, program guidelines, and performance evaluation tools, as needed;
– Conduct performance evaluations for staff and maintain human resource files according to Island Health licensing standards;
– Manage staff attendance, absenteeism, disciplinary and labor relations issues in a timely manner;
– Plan and lead staff meetings and staff appreciation events;
– Understand Occupational Health and Safety standards and promote safety in the workplace;
– Provide team leadership, motivation, and inspiration to all staff and volunteers.

– Other duties as required by the Board of Directors & Executive Director.

 A valid B.C. License to Practice as an Early Childhood Educator
 5 or more years in senior leadership or management role in a non-profit child care Centre
 Must meet BC Child Care licensing requirements for valid first aid certification
 Signed authorization to conduct a criminal record check (as required by BC Child Care Licensing Regulation)
 Class 4 unrestricted driver’s license (24 passenger bus) or willing to obtain by Jan 2020
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
 Proficient computer skills including ability to work with Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher programs
 Strong understanding of BC Child Care Licensing Regulations
 Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with our team
 Professionalism when working with staff, families and children at all times

Rate of Pay: $24.50 – $26.00 per hour starting wage depending on experience. Wage is currently under review
