It had the air of a quilting bee; women sitting around tables, pinning, cutting, and perfecting their craft. Some were animated, sharing a laugh with an old friend or a newly minted one; and some were quietly attentive to their project, pausing to smile when they overheard something amusing.

However, no matter their style, all of these women had two things in common: they were all care providers participating in our National Child Day celebration, “M is for Maple!”

Most of us eat maple syrup with our pancakes, and never think about the amount of time and effort it takes to create it. Yet it's intrinsically Canadian, and there are festivals across the country dedicated to this wonderful, sweet, sticky syrup!

Did you know that Vancouver Island boasts it's own Maple Syrup industry? Did you know it would take 25 4 litre milk jugs to make just 1 litre of syrup? These are just two of the interesting facts that were presented at our "M is for Maple" evening.

Stories were read, felt stories were demonstrated and there was even a rousing rendition of "Oh Maple Tree," to the tune of "Oh Christmas Tree" sung! One of our Referral Consultants, Shauna, baked a wonderful array of goodies for the evening, from maple buttertarts, to cupcakes to sugar cookies! Delicious!

The evening was brought to a close with a felt story "make n' take." This allowed the participants to make their own "It looked like Maple Syrup" felt story and take it home with them!

Thank you to all who participated and made this night such a fun event!
